Firm in the belief that area teenagers could benefit from residential treatment combining rehabilitation, caring, commitment and communication Comfort House, with the help of private donors, organizations and corporations, was developed as a group home in Washington DC.

Comfort House is a residential group home for at risk teenage girls (ages 13-19) preparing to return to the community from various institutions. Comfort House provides care 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Each resident receives supervision from dedicated counselors who work closely with the resident's parent(s), probation officer, social workers and other residential staff. The home will accommodate resident teenage girls under the supervision of qualified staff that includes a registered nurse, social worker, counselors, tutors, psychiatrist, and therapists.

With regard for the school day, residents attend individual, group, and family group therapy sessions, substance abuse education with a strong emphasis on prevention or recovery, nutrition and social etiquette instruction, life skills classes, vocational and educational assistance.

The Comfort House program has a strong character development and rehabilitation component. We help our residents learn to manage anger, cooperate with others and establish an environment of mutual respect in all their relationships. We build self-esteem by fostering success in academics, on-campus work assignments and the mastery of semi-independent living skills. Each Comfort House graduate leaves us knowing how to take care of both their living environment and themselves.
